Mrs. Richardsons Kindergarten Classes
January 22nd and 23rd 2004
Current Events
Our theme for the month of January is winter animals. Everyone will learn how animals stay warm in the winter and why some animals hibernate. We will discuss what animals eat in the winter and why we help animals by putting out food on cold and snowy winters. We will be reading and doing projects with one of my favorite authors and stories: Jan Bretts The Mitten. In math, our class will be learning how to skip count by 5. The students will continue to write in their journals and participate in reading groups. They will also continue learning new letters in the alphabet.
Report Cards
Your childs first report card is enclosed with this newsletter. Please sign the envelope and return it back to school in your childs important folder.
Last Names and Phone Numbers
The students are off to a great start writing their last name on all of the papers they complete in class. Please continue to help your child practice writing his/her last name at home. I will be asking the students to tell me their telephone number within the next two weeks. Please help your child memorize his/her phone number.
Take Home Books
Your child will be bringing home a new take home book every day. Please make sure you sign the paper enclosed with the book. It is very important that the students bring their books back to school every day. The students books will become more challenging as their reading skills improve. You will be charged for the take home books if they are lost. Thank you for your support at home and enjoy reading with your child.
Math Homework
A new math homework sheet is enclosed with this newsletter. Please sign the math sheet once the activity is complete and have your child return it back to school the following week on Monday or Tuesday.
Kindergarten Bake Sale
All of the kindergarten classes will be putting on a bake sale on Wednesday, January 28th. Please send your child to school with a dozen of baked goods. If your child is in the green class, you can send in the baked goods on Tuesday, or you can send them to school with an older sibling on Wednesday. If your child is in the gold class you can bring in the baked goods on Wednesday. I still need some parent volunteers to help sell at the bake sale. If you are interested in selling baked goods, please write me a note to let me know what time would work for you. I am sorry for the inconvenience of the alternate day schedule with the bake sale.
Popcorn Party
The students have been earning popcorn kernels in a jar for good behavior. Both classes have almost filled their jars. As a reward, once the jars are full, the students will earn a popcorn party. The students will enjoy some popcorn while watching a short video. The students will be watching a G rated video about winter. The video will be shown on Thursday, January 28th and Friday January 29th for a half hour in the afternoon. If you do not want your child to participate in the popcorn party, please write me a note to let me know.
Valentines Day Party (Gold Class)
Although I have enough parent volunteers for the green class, I would appreciate more parent volunteers for the gold class. The gold class will be having their Valentines Day party on Thursday, February 12th. I need four more parent volunteers (Michelle Lamb is already scheduled.) Please write me a note if you are interested in helping during our Valentines Day party.
Lost and Found
Please stop by our classroom if your child is missing some winter clothing. I have a lost and found table in our class.
Things to do at Home
Please help your child learn to:
1.Say his/her phone number
2.Tie his/her shoes
3.Write and say the words like, me, to, and, can the, see, look, this, my.
Have a wonderful week.
